Microsoft is not building its own server-building tools, a report says.
The report, by Bloomberg and TechCrunch, says Microsoft’s Minecraft development kit (DKX) will not be making its way to its own servers.
The report said Microsoft has been testing new ways to build Minecraft-like Minecraft servers, but those are not working.
According to Bloomberg, the company’s new Minecraft server plans include: Building an ‘open-source Minecraft server’ that can host any server that can run Minecraft.
Building a ‘minigames server’ to serve “game-specific content.”
Building Minecraft-specific Minecraft tools that can be used to automate and manage Minecraft servers.
Using the Minecraft SDK, a “multi-platform platform” that Microsoft developed with Valve, as the foundation for its Minecraft servers and software.
“The company has been developing and supporting Minecraft servers for more than two years,” the report said.
“But it’s unclear how many of those servers will be built and run by Microsoft.”
The report says Microsoft has a plan to launch its own “minigame server” for Minecraft.
It is unclear if Microsoft will use the same technology that Valve is using to create the open-source “Minecraft Server” that runs the game, the report says, citing “a source familiar with the matter.”
Microsoft, however, has been working on Minecraft servers that are more focused on multiplayer gaming.
In 2016, it announced a new Minecraft game called “MMO Arena” that was being built by Valve, which will “play in the same universe as the popular MMORPG ‘MMO Wars.'”
Microsoft has said it is working on its own game servers, though, and that the company is working to find “customers that can deliver these services to them in a timely fashion.”
